The World of Aeloria
World Overview & Cosmology

Aeloria is a world woven from Resonance, the invisible force that flows through all living things, binding the elements, fueling magic, and connecting mortals to the Primordial Gods. Six great kingdoms stand across its varied lands, each shaped by the element that dominates their earth. Beneath the surface of prosperity, an ancient darkness stirs: the Void of Nulveth seeps back into the world, corrupting Resonance at its roots.

"Before the kingdoms, before the gods, there was only Resonance. And before Resonance, there was the Void." The First Verse, The Aelorian Codex

The Three Ages

The Age of Primordials
Before recorded history

The seven Primordial Gods shaped Aeloria from raw Resonance. Each claimed a domain of the world, and from their breath and blood sprang the first races. The Void (the absence of Resonance) was sealed away by their combined power.

The Age of Kingdoms
~3,000 years of recorded history

The mortal races built their kingdoms, developed magic, forged alliances, and fought wars. The Resonance Guild was established 800 years ago to coordinate adventurers across kingdom borders. The gods fell silent: present in faith, but no longer walking the land.

The Age of Fractures
Present day: Year 1 of the Age of Fractures

Void Corruption has begun seeping through hairline cracks in the world's Resonance. The Blighted appear in greater numbers. The Hollow Court stirs. The gods' silence grows heavier. This is the age adventurers are born into, and the age that needs them most.

The Six Kingdoms
Sovereign Realms of Aeloria
Map
The Realms of Aeloria
Map of Aeloria
Solmere
The Sunlit Heartlands
Aureveil

The most prosperous kingdom of Aeloria, Solmere sprawls across golden plains, slow-winding rivers, and gentle mountain foothills. The land is perpetually warm, harvest is bountiful, and the cities gleam with white stone and copper rooftops. Aureveil, the capital, sits at the confluence of three rivers, a merchant's dream and a pilgrim's destination.

Solmere is governed by a hereditary monarchy aided by the Church of Solun. It is the most politically open kingdom, maintaining embassies in every other realm. However, its prosperity makes it a constant target of envy, and Void Corruption has begun appearing in the outlying farmlands, worrying the crown deeply.

Notable Features
The Aureveil Grand Market: largest in Aeloria. The River Sanctums: temples built over fast-flowing rivers, dedicated to Solun. The Goldmere Plains: endless wheat fields lit golden at dusk. The Sunveil Mountains to the north, where griffins nest.

Races: Predominantly Human. Small communities of Beastkin and traveling Sprites.
Culture: Merchants, knights, farmers. Honor-bound. Deeply religious. Strong sense of community.
Tone: Warm, pastoral, medieval Europe at its finest, but with cracks forming.

Frostheim
The Eternal North
Crysthaven

Where the world turns white and the aurora dances above frozen seas, Frostheim stands as a testament to endurance. Vast tundra plains give way to glacier fields and jagged ice-spires that dwarf any man-made tower. The nights last six months here. The people do not fear the dark; they have learned to live within it.

Crysthaven is built into the side of the Skullpeak glacier, its towers hewn from the ice itself. The palace is never warm. Frostheim is governed by the Jarl-Council, seven elected clan leaders who convene only during the brief summer, though in an hour of great peril they may name a single sovereign to lead the clans in war while the Council keeps the realm running. War between clans is common, but when a foreign threat arises, all clans unite without question.

Notable Features
The Aurora Fields: open plains where the sky blazes nightly with color. The Undertide: a warm ocean current that carves caves beneath the glaciers, filled with bioluminescent sea creatures. The Storm Columns: enormous frozen lightning strikes preserved for millennia, worshipped as the bones of Volt itself.

Races: Frost Elves, hardy Humans, and rare Giants in the deep mountains.
Culture: Warriors, hunters, shamans. Stoic. Deeply fatalistic: they believe Fate is written in ice and must be accepted. Enormous respect for strength and honesty.
Tone: Norse mythic. Brutal beauty. Quiet, vast, and deadly.

Embervast
The Ashlands
Forgespire

A land of perpetual volcanic activity, Embervast is both terrifying and magnificent. Rivers of lava carve channels between obsidian mountains. The sky is permanently streaked with ash clouds, and the sun bleeds red through the haze. Beneath the surface, vast forge-cities have been excavated: entire civilizations living underground, lit by the glow of molten rock.

Forgespire is the crown jewel of the underground, a city of iron and fire, with forge-towers reaching up through volcanic vents to the surface. The Oni who rule here are not savage beasts; they are proud engineers, master smiths, and honorable warriors. Embervast is a meritocracy: your forge-mark (your crafted work) is your title.

Notable Features
The Grand Crucible: a volcanic forge of legendary scale, said to have been built by Ignar himself. The Ashwood: a petrified forest above ground, with trees of perfect black stone. The Ember Wastes: surface desert of ash and obsidian where the most powerful fire elementals roam.

Races: Oni (majority), Fire-Branded Demi-humans (humans born with fire Resonance markings).
Culture: Smiths, warriors, engineers. Honor above all. Debts are sacred. The forge is their temple.
Tone: Dark industrial, honor-code warrior culture. Harsh but noble.

Sylvanthos
The Ancient Forest
Lumenroot

Sylvanthos is not simply a forest; it is a living entity. The trees here have stood for ten thousand years, their roots forming a web of Resonance beneath the entire kingdom. At night, the forests glow with bioluminescent flora: glowing mushrooms, luminous moss, flowers that pulse with soft light. Fog rivers flow between root-valleys, and the air smells of rain and cedar and something older than memory.

Lumenroot is a city grown within the canopy of the largest tree in the world: the Worldtree, Aethralene. The city's structures are living branches shaped over centuries by Elven Resonance. No stone was cut, no wood was felled. Sylvanthos is governed by the Elder Council, five High Elves each over a thousand years old.

Notable Features
The Worldtree Aethralene: 3km tall, its canopy covers a day's walk. The Spiritwood: a deep section of forest where the boundary between Aeloria and the spirit realm is thin; mortals who enter rarely return unchanged. The Moonlit Glades: meadow clearings where Sprites dance and the grass grows silver.

Races: High Elves (Aethrel), Beastkin (mostly fox and wolf-kin), Sprites, and rare Faefolk.
Culture: Druids, rangers, artists, memory-keepers. Ancient and patient. Deeply suspicious of outsiders and industry. They do not build; they grow.
Tone: Mystical ancient forest. Beautiful and unwelcoming. Serene and dangerous in equal measure.

Aetherpeak
The Skyborne Isles
Vaultspire

A collection of islands floating at high altitude, connected by arching bridges, suspended chain-roads, and Resonance-powered gondola lines. Below them, the clouds churn endlessly. From the islands, you can see the entire continent spread like a painted map. The air is thin, electric, and alive: every breath feels like a small shock.

Vaultspire floats at the highest point, a city of glass towers, crystalline walkways, and libraries that drift between the islands. The Aetherborn who govern here are scholars and inventors, and their civilization is centuries ahead of the surface in magical technology. Governance is through the Skycourt Conclave, a body of elected mage-scholars.

Notable Features
The Resonance Observatory: a massive instrument that can detect magical events across the entire continent. The Cloudsea: the dense cloud layer below the islands, home to enormous sky-beasts. The Aether Rifts: naturally occurring spatial tears that occasionally open between islands; navigating them is a rite of passage for Aetherborn youth.

Races: Aetherborn (majority), Humans, small Elven and Beastkin scholar communities.
Culture: Scholars, mages, inventors, explorers. Intensely curious. Somewhat arrogant. They believe every problem has a solution; you simply haven't calculated it yet.
Tone: Magitech wonder. Clean, ambitious, a little cold. Floating utopia with secret tensions beneath the glass.

Umbralith
The Sunken Realm
Hollowcrown

Deep beneath Aeloria's surface lies Umbralith, a vast network of cavern kingdoms lit by phosphorescent mushroom-forests, underground seas with their own currents and storms, and crystal caves that refract imagined light in impossible colors. It is a world of its own, entirely separate from the surface, and its people prefer it that way.

Hollowcrown is carved into the roof of the largest cavern in existence, a city built upside-down, hanging from the cave ceiling like a chandelier of dark stone and glowing crystal. The Dark Elves who govern it are not evil; they are pragmatic, mercantile, and deeply secretive. Information is their currency. Umbralith officially maintains neutrality in all surface conflicts.

Notable Features
The Crystalmere: an underground sea so still it perfectly mirrors the cavern ceiling, creating infinite visual depth. The Mushroomwood: a forest of 30-meter bioluminescent fungi, home to unique creatures found nowhere else. The Deep Archive: the most comprehensive library in Aeloria, containing records the surface world has forgotten.

Races: Dark Elves (Umbrel), Deepkin (cave-adapted humans), and various unique subterranean beings.
Culture: Merchants, spies, archivists, assassins. Neutral-aligned. They watch everything and intervene rarely. Their word, once given, is absolute.
Tone: Beautiful, mysterious, deeply unsettling. Elegant darkness. Every smile hides three layers of meaning.

Peoples of Aeloria
Races, Lineages & Traits
Humans All Kingdoms
The Adaptable

The most numerous race, found in every kingdom. Humans have no innate element but can awaken to any Resonance, making them the most magically versatile race in Aeloria. Their short lives drive extraordinary ambition.

Lifespan: 70–90 years
Trait: Free Resonance (may awaken any element)

High Elves Sylvanthos
Aethrel: The Memory-Keepers

Tall, slender, with ears tapering to delicate points and eyes that shift color with emotion. They are ancient even at birth in their souls, carrying race-memory of the Age of Primordials. Their connection to Veil and Zephyr is instinctive, not learned.

Lifespan: 1,500–2,000 years
Trait: Forest Resonance (Veil and Zephyr affinities)

Frost Elves Frostheim
Hrimael: Children of the Glaciers

Stockier than their southern kin, with skin that carries a faint bluish pallor and hair like frozen silver. Their eyes are pale, almost white, and glow faintly in extreme cold. Frostheim's brutal winters shaped them into exceptional fighters and hunters.

Lifespan: 800–1,200 years
Trait: Tundra Blood (Frost and Volt affinities; immune to cold status)

Dark Elves Umbralith
Umbrel: The Shadow-Weavers

Obsidian-dark or deep ash-grey skin, white hair, and eyes that glow a soft violet in darkness. They move in near-silence naturally and can see perfectly in complete darkness. Their society revolves around knowledge, contracts, and shadow magic.

Lifespan: 600–900 years
Trait: Umbra Sight (Umbra affinity; perfect darkvision)

Oni Embervast
The Forge-Born

Powerfully built, with skin ranging from deep red to jet black. Their horns vary in number from one to six: the more horns, the older the bloodline. Their eyes burn with an inner ember light. Despite their fearsome appearance, Oni culture is built on deep codes of honor.

Lifespan: 200–400 years
Trait: Forge-Blood (Ember and Earth affinities; resist fire damage)

Beastkin Various
Demi-humans: Children of Two Worlds

Beastkin carry the traits of animals alongside their humanoid form: ears, tails, fur patterns, claws, or enhanced senses. Types include: Fox-kin, Wolf-kin, Cat-kin, Rabbit-kin, Hawk-kin, Bear-kin, and more. Their affinities vary by their animal spirit.

Lifespan: 80–120 years
Trait: Beast Sense (enhanced hearing, smell, or sight based on type)

Aetherborn Aetherpeak
Children of the Storm

Born during magical storms or Resonance surges, Aetherborn carry Aether visibly in their veins: glowing lines of light run beneath their skin, and their irises crackle with contained lightning. They feel Resonance the way others feel air: constantly, involuntarily.

Lifespan: 150–250 years
Trait: Living Resonance (Volt and Aether affinities; can sense Void Corruption)

Deepkin Umbralith
The Cave-Adapted

Humans whose ancestors descended underground generations ago. Pale as cave pearl, with enormous eyes adapted to darkness, and a preternatural stillness. They have lost surface-world social norms and replaced them with the precise, unhurried manners of deep-cave culture.

Lifespan: 90–130 years
Trait: Cavesense (Umbra affinity; tremor sense (detect movement through ground))

Sprites & Faefolk Sylvanthos
The Tiny Ancient Ones

Small enough to sit in a palm, Sprites and Fae are among the oldest beings in Aeloria. They predate the current age by thousands of years and are technically a sub-type of nature spirit that chose a physical form. Whimsical, unpredictable, and extremely powerful for their size.

Lifespan: Theoretically immortal (fade if cut from nature)
Trait: Pure Nature (max Veil Resonance; flight; very low HP)

Giants Frostheim
The Last Primordials

Towering beings of 4–8 meters, Giants are extremely rare and are considered living relics of the Age of Primordials. Most live alone in the deepest mountains or glacier fields. They rarely involve themselves in mortal affairs, but when they do, it changes history.

Lifespan: Thousands of years
Trait: Mountain Blood (Frost and Earth affinities; massive HP pool)

The Resonance System
Magic, Elemental Affinities & The Art of Weaving

Resonance is not merely "magic"; it is the fundamental force that makes Aeloria alive. Every stone, every gust of wind, every heartbeat vibrates at a Resonance frequency. Those who learn to perceive and shape their own frequency become Weavers, practitioners of elemental magic.

The Eight Elements

⬡ Ember: Fire
Destruction, passion, transformation. The most aggressive element.
Status: Burning (DoT). Weakness: Frost. Boost: Zephyr (fuels it)
⬡ Frost: Ice
Patience, preservation, slowing. Time itself seems to freeze.
Status: Frozen (immobilize). Weakness: Ember. Counters: Volt
⬡ Volt: Lightning
Speed, disruption, raw kinetic energy. Chaotic and brilliant.
Status: Stunned (skip action). Amplified by: water/ice targets
⬡ Veil: Nature
Growth, healing, life force. Equally capable of nurture and poison.
Status: Poisoned (DoT + stat drain). Absorbs: Umbra
⬡ Umbra: Shadow
Status: Feared (forced retreat). Purged by: Lumen. Amplified in: darkness
Fear, concealment, the unseen. Shadow doesn't fight; it waits.
⬡ Lumen: Light
Purity, revelation, divine will. The only element that can cleanse Void Corruption.
Status: Blinded (halved accuracy). Nullified by: Aether
⬡ Aether: Void
Space, silence, the in-between. The rarest and most misunderstood element.
Status: Silenced (no magic). Nullifies: Lumen. Related to: Void Corruption (but NOT the same)
⬡ Zephyr: Wind
Freedom, momentum, breath. The element of movement and change.
Status: Airborne (vulnerable to Volt, immune to ground). Fuels: Ember

Resonance Tiers

Tier Name Description Rarity
0UnawakenedNo access to elemental magic. Senses nothing. Common: most people.~60% of population
IAwakenedElement perceived and accessed. Basic spells only. Visible resonance aura.~35% of population
IIAttunedFull elemental control. Can perform one Binding (dual-element fusion). Requires years of training.~4% of population
IIIAscendantMaster of their element. Multiple Bindings. Physical appearance begins to reflect their element permanently.~0.9% of population
IVPrimordialGod-level. Their Resonance reshapes the world around them. Theoretical: only the gods have reached this tier... and one mortal, once, in legend.Mythic

Elemental Bindings

When a Weaver reaches Attuned tier, they can attempt to combine two elements into a Binding, a fusion magic that produces effects neither element could achieve alone. Bindings are extremely taxing and require both elements to be Awakened.

Mistfire
Ember + Frost

Steam and fog magic. Obscures vision, conducts both heat and cold simultaneously. Can flash-boil or flash-freeze.

Stormveil
Volt + Zephyr

Electrified wind storms. Massive AOE potential. The most destructive Binding available to mortals.

Bloomshadow
Veil + Umbra

Carnivorous shadow-plants. Life that feeds on darkness. Used by assassins and cursed druids.

Solumbra
Lumen + Umbra

Impossible harmony. Creates "grey light" that reveals all illusions and hidden things, but blinds the caster to color permanently.

Ashstone
Ember + Earth

Lava and molten rock control. Can raise obsidian walls, launch magma spears, or terraform the battlefield.

Voidfrost
Aether + Frost

Freezes space itself: targets cannot teleport, fly, or move between planes. Used to trap powerful entities.

Windbloom
Veil + Zephyr

A storm of drifting petals that cut enemies and mend allies. The caster rides the gale itself, gaining flight and speed, while the blade-sharp bloom wounds foes and heals those who fight beside them.

Cinderbloom
Ember + Veil

Fire that feeds life instead of ending it. Controlled burns leave behind ash-rich soil where flowers erupt within minutes.

Dawnmend
Lumen + Veil

Radiant growth magic: golden light that coaxes flesh and root to knit. The strongest healing Binding known, and one of the few that can cleanse early Void Corruption. Each use leaves the caster ravenously hungry.

Rimespark
Frost + Volt

Lightning trapped inside ice. Crystals grow charged, humming with stored current, and shatter in chains of white-blue arcs.

Riftgale
Aether + Zephyr

Winds that blow between places. A Riftgale caster can bend a gust to open short, shrieking tears in space: stepping through them, pulling distant objects to hand, or scattering enemies across the field. Dangerous: a badly woven gale can pull the caster through with it.

Duskwhisper
Umbra + Zephyr

Shadow carried on the breeze. It muffles footsteps and voices, drowns lanterns in creeping dark, and whispers lies into the ears of sleepers miles away. Favored by spies, smugglers, and the quieter kind of assassin.

Void Corruption

Void Corruption is not Aether magic; it is the unraveling of Resonance itself. Where Aether works within the world's rules, Void Corruption unmakes them. Corrupted individuals or creatures display black branching veins, hollow eyes, and erratic, destructive behavior. Their Resonance slowly inverts, turning their own magic against them.

Void Corruption spreads like rot, from a corrupted creature or place to nearby living things, slowly and inevitably. Only advanced Lumen magic or a Binding involving Lumen can cleanse it. Left unchecked, a corrupted area becomes a Blightzone, a dead, howling wasteland where Resonance cannot exist.

The Primordials & Darkness
Gods, Ancient Powers & the Void

The Seven Primordial Gods

Solun, the Undying Flame
God of Light, Order, and Life

The most widely worshipped god in Aeloria. Depicted as a radiant figure with a crown of solar rays and one hand always open, never clenched. Solun represents civilization, justice, and the warmth that keeps the dark at bay. The Church of Solun is the largest religious institution in the world. His temples glow even at midnight.

Symbol: Open hand radiating light. Holy Day: Summer solstice, the Festival of the Long Light.

Verath, the Root-Weaver
Goddess of Nature, Growth, and Memory

Depicted as a woman whose skin is bark and whose hair is living flowers that change with the seasons. Verath is memory itself; she is said to remember every creature that has ever lived, and it pains her that they are forgotten by others. Elves pray to her before sleeping, asking her to preserve their dreams.

Symbol: Spiraling root enclosing a small seedling. Holy Day: The first bloom of spring, the Day of Remembrance.

Hrimr, the Frozen Watch
God of Ice, Patience, and Fate

Depicted as an impossibly ancient giant, wrapped in glaciers that have not moved in an eon, eyes open but unseeing, watching time pass without blinking. Hrimr is not cruel, simply inevitable. His faith teaches that fate is already written in the permafrost; wisdom is accepting it without flinching.

Symbol: A closed eye with frost lashes. Holy Day: The winter solstice, the Night of Long Waiting.

Ignar, the Forge-Heart
God of Fire, Creation, and Honorable War

A massive Oni figure with a transparent chest, inside which burns a white-hot forge flame. Ignar built the mountains. He created the Oni as his finest work and wept when they chose their own path, then was prouder for it. He is the patron of craftsmen, warriors, and anyone who creates with their hands.

Symbol: An anvil with a single vertical flame. Holy Day: The first forge-fire of the new year, the Lighting of Embers.

Aethys, the Sky-Dancer
Goddess of Magic, Knowledge, and the Sky

Made entirely of lightning and stardust in her divine form: no fixed body, just a whirling presence of energy and brilliance. Aethys invented the study of Resonance. She gave the first mages their frameworks and then stepped back, wanting them to discover the rest themselves. She despises being worshipped and loves being proven wrong.

Symbol: A seven-pointed star with a lightning bolt through its center.

Umbrath, the Hollow King
God of Shadow, Death, and Truth

Neither good nor evil: the keeper of balance between life and death. Umbrath does not kill; he simply receives. He is depicted as a figure with no face, wearing robes of woven shadow, with a lantern whose light is black. He is the most honest god: he never comforts, never lies, and never promises anything beyond truth.

Symbol: A black lantern with no flame visible. Domain: The Echoing Deep, a realm between Aeloria and nothingness where souls rest before moving on.

Zephira, the Free Wind
Goddess of Wind, Freedom, and the Road

The only god with no fixed kingdom. Zephira is everywhere and nowhere; her temples are open-air hilltops, not enclosed buildings. She refuses walls. Travelers, merchants, adventurers, and the dispossessed all pray to her. She is mischievous and warm, and she is the patron god of the Resonance Guild.

Symbol: A feather caught mid-fall in a spiral wind. Holy Day: Every new journey's first step.

The Darkness

Nulveth, the Unmade
The Void Eternal: The Final Silence

Not a god. Not a being. Nulveth is the absence of Resonance given will, or perhaps will that was always there, waiting for Resonance to fill the world before consuming it. Nulveth predates creation and resents it. Its sole drive is to return the world to the perfect silence of the pre-Resonance void.

It cannot be killed, only re-sealed. It speaks through Void Corruption, dreams, and the desperate. The Hollow Court are its heralds. It is patient in the way that geological time is patient.

The Seal
Seven hundred years ago, the gods sealed Nulveth beneath the world in an act that left all of them diminished, hence their silence. The seal is fraying. The Age of Fractures has begun.
The Hollow Court
Five Wraith-Lords: Nulveth's Heralds

Once mortal rulers who, facing death, made a pact with Nulveth for immortality. They received it: hollowed out, their Resonance replaced entirely by Void. They are not undead; they are simply empty. They move through walls of corruption, spreading the Void wherever they travel, and they remember being human, which makes them more terrifying, not less.

  • Vaerith the Pale: former king of a lost kingdom. Wears his crown still, though it is now pure black iron.
  • The Unmothered: identity unknown. Appears as a woman cradling something invisible, weeping silently.
  • Ash-Jorn: a Frost Elf general who refused to die in battle. Now leads the Blighted like an army.
  • The Gilded Rot: a merchant lord turned by greed. Spreads corruption through trade routes.
  • The Last Monk: once a priest of Solun. The most dangerous: knows Lumen magic and has corrupted it.
The Blighted & The Devoured
Corrupted Creatures

The Blighted: living beings partially consumed by Void Corruption. They retain some intelligence but are in constant agony. Black veins, hollow eyes, erratic behavior. Some Blighted still beg for help; they are aware of what is happening to them. This is what makes them tragic.

The Devoured: fully consumed. No mind remains, only Void-hunger. They seek to spread corruption to anything nearby. They are visually horrifying: normal creatures or people with their Resonance entirely replaced by void-black absence, moving wrong, existing wrong.

Powers & Factions
Organizations, Orders & Secret Societies
The Aureate Order Lawful Good
Holy Knights of Solun · Solmere

Elite paladins and clerics who carry Lumen as both sword and faith. Sworn to defend the living against the Void. The most organized military force in Aeloria, funded directly by the Church of Solun. Strict code of conduct, but their methods have grown harsher as the Void spreads.

  • Purge Void Corruption from settlements
  • Protect pilgrimage routes
  • Currently investigating the Hollow Court
The Thornweald Pact Neutral Good
Druids & Rangers of the Wild · Sylvanthos

The oldest organized faction, older than any kingdom. Their mandate: protect the natural Resonance of Aeloria. They answer to Verath and the Elder Council. They do not recruit; they call, and those meant to hear will find their way to a grove at dawn.

  • Maintain natural Resonance balance
  • Fight Blighted corruption in wild lands
  • Deep distrust of Aetherpeak magitech
The Ironbound Covenant True Neutral
Warrior-Smiths · Embervast

A mercenary coalition of Embervast's finest fighters and smiths. They sell their services, honestly and expensively, to any kingdom. Their forge-mark guarantee means every weapon they make is traceable back to them. Honor is their only currency and they guard it fiercely.

  • High-value mercenary contracts
  • Forge legendary equipment
  • Trade war expertise between kingdoms
The Frostblood Vanguard Lawful Neutral
Monster Hunters · Frostheim

Frostheim's answer to the increasing monstrousness of the world. Originally formed to hunt the megafauna of the glacier fields, the Vanguard now ranges across all kingdoms, tracking and eliminating supernatural threats. They are ruthlessly efficient and famously short on words.

  • Contract monster hunts, continent-wide
  • Maintain a bestiary of every known creature
  • Quietly tracking the Hollow Court's movements
The Veilwalkers Unaligned
Void Scholars · No Fixed Base

A secret society studying Void Corruption from the inside; some of their members are voluntarily partially Blighted. They believe the only way to defeat Nulveth is to understand it completely. Most factions consider them dangerously unhinged. They consider most factions dangerously uninformed.

  • Contain and study Void phenomena
  • Seek the truth about Nulveth's origins
  • Membership known only to members
The Skycourt Conclave Lawful Neutral
Mage-Scholars · Aetherpeak

The governing body of Aetherpeak doubles as its most powerful magical institution. Technically the most knowledgeable faction regarding Resonance theory. Practically, they spend half their time in academic debates. Becoming useful in a crisis requires cutting through enormous bureaucracy.

  • Advance magical theory and technology
  • Monitor Resonance events via Observatory
  • Reluctant diplomacy with surface kingdoms
The Umbral Syndicate Neutral: Self-interest
Information Brokers · Umbralith

Umbralith's premier intelligence network, run by Dark Elf merchants who have spent centuries collecting secrets. They sell information to anyone who can pay, and their intelligence is never wrong. They maintain strict neutrality: they've worked for every kingdom and the Hollow Court separately, and see no contradiction in this.

  • Intelligence trading across all factions
  • Control Umbralith's shadow economy
  • The one rule: information sold is always true
The Wandering Song Chaotic Good
Bards, Travelers & Neutral Voices

Officially a bard's college. Actually a loose network of wanderers, messengers, spies-for-hire, and peacemakers who believe stories are more powerful than swords. They are the only faction welcome in every kingdom simultaneously, because everyone needs a song and a messenger.

  • Carry messages across kingdom borders
  • Document history as it happens
  • Occasionally broker peace, accidentally
The Resonance Guild
Adventurer Ranking System & Guild Structure

Founded 800 years ago under the blessing of Zephira, the Resonance Guild serves as the continent's adventurer network, a neutral organization that accepts contracts from any kingdom, assigns ranked adventurers to missions, and maintains standards of conduct across all members. Guild halls exist in every major city. The Guild answers to no king.

The Card Rank Hierarchy

Ranks are represented by playing card suits and values. Within each suit, values ascend from 2 through 10, then Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K), and Ace (A), with Ace being the highest within that suit. The suits themselves ascend in order: Club → Diamond → Heart → Spade.

Suit Tier Name Color Allowed Missions Notes
♣ Club
Iron Tier: ♣2 to ♣A
Pewter Local missions only. Delivery, scouting, clearing minor pests. No dungeon clearance. Starting rank for all new adventurers. Most never leave this tier.
♦ Diamond
Silver Tier: ♦2 to ♦A
Silver-blue Regional missions. Standard dungeon clearance. Escort of important figures. First monster-hunt licenses. Most working adventurers sit in Diamond. Respectable income.
♥ Heart
Gold Tier: ♥2 to ♥A
Deep gold Cross-kingdom missions. Elite dungeon and ruin clearance. Named-monster hunts. Kingdom-level requests. Heart rank adventurers are celebrities in their home kingdoms. High risk, high reward.
♠ Spade
Obsidian Tier: ♠2 to ♠A
Obsidian-black World-threatening missions. Hollow Court confrontation. Void Blightzone clearance. Anything the other ranks can't handle. Fewer than 40 Spade-rank adventurers exist at any time across all of Aeloria.

Rank Progression

Promotion System

Promotion within a suit is automatic: completing enough missions of the appropriate difficulty increases your card value (e.g. ♣5 → ♣6 → ... → ♣A). Promotion to the next suit requires a Rank Trial, a formal examination of combat, skill, and judgment set by the Guild.

Guild Card

Each member carries a Resonance-etched guild card, a metal card no larger than a palm, inscribed with the member's rank, Resonance tier, and a unique identifier. It cannot be forged; Aetherpeak enchantments ensure it resonates with its owner's specific frequency.

♠A: The Sovereign

The rarest title in the Guild. A ♠A "Sovereign" has, historically, only ever been awarded seven times in 800 years. The title is not applied for: the Guild Masters of all active halls must vote unanimously to grant it, usually in response to a world-altering act.

Demotion & Expulsion

Ranks can be stripped for code violations, cowardice, or civilian harm. A stripped rank returns the card to ♣2. Permanent expulsion (a "Black Mark") bars the bearer from all Guild services and is announced publicly across all halls. It is considered social death for an adventurer.

Guild Code of Conduct

The Six Tenets of the Guild
1. Complete your contracts or report your inability to. Silence is the only true failure.
2. Protect civilians above all else; no bounty is worth innocent life.
3. No rank may refuse aid to another member in mortal danger, regardless of contract.
4. Magic and arms raised against a fellow member outside of sanctioned combat is immediate expulsion.
5. Information gained on contract belongs to the contractor; information that threatens Aeloria belongs to all.
6. The Guild has no king. No member may act as agent of a kingdom while on Guild business.
